Dress

Courtesy is also shown to the military uniform in how you dress when attending any military function. Here are some guidelines for appropriate dress when accompanying your soldier / airman.

Formal Army / Air Force Mess Dress or Army Dress Blues with Black Bow Tie Formal
Cocktail dress
Tuxedo
Informal Army Dress Blues with 4 in hand tie or Class A Green / Air Force Blue Dress
Evening pants
Suit
Business suit
Casual Civilian clothing: 
Open collar shirt (sports coat for gentlemen is sometimes expected). Generally, shorts or blue jeans are not appropriate unless the invitation indicates very casual attire.
Same as soldier

Hats may be worn to any day function. 

Gloves are correct; however, they must be removed when eating, drinking or smoking.   When going through a receiving line, it is courtesy to remove them but not necessary.
