State Family Program Office | Family Readiness Council | Jr. AT Youth Camp Families play an important role in unit readiness and retention. Family Readiness Group is a "support group" for the families of each unit. It is managed by the commander and volunteer unit family members. The FRG’s mission is making families a part of the Unit so they understand and are more supportive of the unit’s mission. FRG’s also have the task of keeping families informed prepared and self-reliant in the event of a deployment. All family members are welcome and encouraged to be involved. Some activities FRGs participate in are: · Phone tree· E-Newsletter - Share information and news. · Send Off / Welcome Homes for AT and Deployments · Yearly Family Day Commanders Briefing · Unit events: cookouts, holiday parties for the kids · Bake sales and fundraisers To volunteer or for more information about your unit Family Readiness Group contact the FTUS at the armory where your guardsman drills. At the state level, there is a State Family Programs Office. Its mission is to make sure all SCNG units have active FRGs, insure our SCNG families are informed and prepared and sponsor a Youth Camp. This council is comprised of the Family Programs Office, TAG staff, Unit personnel and FRG volunteers. Its mission is to be a collective force within the state to promote readiness and share ideas and information to better educate families about the SCNG.The SCNG sponsors a summer Youth Camp for children of National Guardsmen ages 10-13. Its mission is to introduce Guard children to the activities their parents/ grandparents experience on drill weekends and at AT. The week long camp is held out at McCrady Training Center.
