SCARNG Recent Accomplishments

The NGASC Executive Council and staff would like to extend our gratitude to all military members, especially those in the SC Air    and Army National Guard, for helping to protect us and the freedom we so deeply cherish. We remember September 11th.

SCARNG Recent Accomplishments

1st Battalion, 151 Aviation accomplished their annual training, known as “Gator Hunt”, during the last two weeks in April at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.  The Apache helicopter unit, which redeployed from Iraq in the fall of 2005, trained on their gunnery tactics.  CW4 Jim Parks also made his final flight during Gator Hunt, as he retired after 28 years of service with the Air Force and SC Army National Guard.

Staff Sgt. Brent Cobb, a recruiter with the Recruiting and Retention command, was presented with the Order of the Silver Crescent during ceremonies which took place at the Fountain Inn Armory on May 6.  The Order of the Silver Crescent is the highest award that can be presented to an individual by the state of South Carolina. Cobb earned the award for his outstanding contributions, volunteerism, and leadership to his community.

Change of command ceremonies took place for the 751st Maintenance Battalion on Sunday, May 7, in the Aviation facility at McEntire Joint National Guard Base.  Lt. Col Michael Schulman assumed command of the battalion from Lt. Col. Russell Feaster, who commanded the unit from October 2004 through April 2006.  Schulman is employed with the SCARNG as the Directorate of Logistics.

Freedom Salute ceremonies continued across the state as units redeploy from duty in support of the Global War on Terrorism.  Units holding recent Freedom Salutes include Headquarters 1st Battalion, 178th Field Artillery, taking place in Georgetown on Saturday, April 1, Company C, 1-126 Aviation Battalion – “Catfish Company” – taking place in Columbia on Sunday, April 23rd, and the 228th Signal Brigade, FWD 4, which took place in Spartanburg on Saturday, May 20.

Col. Ron Huff, Chief of Staff for the SCARNG, was asked to present three cadets of the state’s Civil Air Patrol with high level awards in ceremonies taking place at Columbia Owens Downtown Airport on Tuesday, May 16.  Huff presented two cadets with the Spaatz Award, the highest a cadet can earn, along with the Eaker Award, another outstanding award.
