EANGUS LEGISLATIVE WORKSHOP
Twenty of your fellow South Carolinians traveled to Alexandria, VA, 9-14
March 2001 to participate in the EANGUS Legislative Workshop.
The workshop allows the opportunity for people from all over the country
to meet to learn about and discuss various legislative issues. The participants were given the chance to hear several
speakers, including Mike Cline, EANGUS Executive Director; CMSgt Gary Broadbent,
CCM, Air National Guard; Congressman Jim Moran; and CSM Frank Lever.
From these people, we learned what the essential legislative issues are,
and why they are so important.
On the last day of the workshop, the
group is allowed the entire day to visit with its states’ Senators and
Congressmen to educate them about those vital legislative issues, and to
encourage them to further support the National Guard.
Our group was able to meet with several of its representatives or their
staffers to remind them of the impact South Carolina National Guard members have
on the state.
This year’s Workshop was the
largest to date, with around 90 participants.
South Carolina had the largest delegation with 20.
Our state was used many times throughout the week as a positive example
of how increased membership produces substantial results on Capitol Hill, as
well as within our own State House.
South Carolina remains number one
in EANGUS membership in the country, and that is something that every
Association member should be proud of, regardless of rank. Please continue to encourage enlisted members to
become, or remain, members of EANGUS, so that our position as the leader in
membership stays strong. In return,
our position as a political leader will continue to develop.
Thank you to all of those who attended
this year’s Workshop. Your
dedication to the NGASC and to EANGUS is greatly appreciated.
